Il progetto Unusual Trio nasce dalla volontà di rompere gli schemi della tradizione jazzistica sfruttando una formazione insolita: il trio pianoforte, sax e batteria. L’assenza del basso permette un’ampia libertà armonica al pianoforte anche nel dialogo col sassofono: la musica galleggia sospinta dalla propulsione della batteria.

Le musiche, oniriche e crepuscolari ma che non mancano di momenti di forte intensità, si fondano su un rapporto paritetico tra gli strumenti, in cui il ruolo di ogni musicista passa costantemente da solista ad accompagnatore. Il repertorio del gruppo è formato interamente da composizioni originali del leader, Andrea Goretti.

All'interno dei brani il gruppo si ritaglia ampi spazi per l’improvvisazione, e i giochi timbrici, armonici e ritmici si intrecciano formando textures diverse per ogni brano.
